Making Room for God to Search Our Hearts
Scripture perspective: Psalm 139:23–24
David invites God to search his heart, reveal what needs attention and lead him in God’s everlasting way. That prayer expresses the posture at the heart of Check Your Why: openness to the One who knows us fully and loves us deeply.
We bring Him the desires, concerns and expectations beneath our choices. Sometimes we discover that disappointment has influenced our direction, that approval has become too important, or that we are still carrying something He is asking us to release.
As we respond to His loving correction, we make room for healing, renewed understanding and a more yielded heart.
Behold. — Receiving His Perspective
Scripture perspective: Hebrews 12:1–2
Hebrews calls believers to persevere with their attention fixed on Jesus. As we look to Him, we learn to
recognize what helps us follow faithfully and what may be weighing us down.
What holds our attention influences how we understand ourselves, other people and our purpose. Through Scripture and time in His presence, Christ helps us reconsider the expectations and measures of success we have accepted along the way.
We begin to ask:
What am I beholding?
What has been shaping my desires and decisions? Am I allowing Christ to guide my understanding of purpose? Am I listening for His direction in this season?
These questions turn our attention toward Him and make room for His perspective.
Become. — Yielding to His Work Within Us
Paul connects offering our lives to God with the renewing of our minds. As we yield ourselves to Him, our
thinking changes, and we grow in discerning His will.
Calling develops as we walk with the One who calls us. He works within our character, relationships and
choices, teaching us to serve from an identity rooted in Him.
Sometimes that means stepping forward with courage. Sometimes it means waiting faithfully. Sometimes it means releasing a familiar plan so we can follow Him with a more surrendered heart.
We ask:
Who am I becoming?
What must I surrender?
The answers may unfold over time. Each response becomes an opportunity to trust Him and become
increasingly Christlike.
Be Sent. — Walking in His Prepared Purpose
Scripture perspective: Ephesians 2:10
Ephesians reminds us that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ for good works He prepared for us to walk in. Our purpose grows from belonging to Him and responding to His work in our lives.
As our hearts become more yielded, we become more attentive to His direction and more faithful with what He has entrusted to us.
Eternal impact can take shape in everyday places: a person encouraged, a family strengthened, a disciple nurtured or a community served. God gives meaning to our faithfulness wherever He leads.
We ask:
How is my purpose being elevated?
As Christ refines our understanding of purpose, we learn to recognize the eternal value of loving people,
honoring Him and serving with what He has placed in our hands.
